Under the Florida mechanics lien statute, those who are hired by the property owner will likely be considered a "contractor." Fla. Stat. §713.01(8) defines a contractor as, "a person other than a materialman or laborer who enters into a contract with the owner of real property for improving it." Therefore, for the purposes of reading Florida statutes or our resources, you will be considered a contractor or direct/prime contractor. Check out our Florida Construction Payment Resources page for more information.
