There was no "contractor" on our job, we were hired by the property owner.

Under the Florida mechanics lien statute, those who are hired by the property owner will likely be considered a "contractor." Fla. Stat. §713.01(8)defines a contractor as, "a person other than a materialman or laborer who enters into a contract with the owner of real property for improving it."
Therefore, for the purposes of reading Florida statutes or our resources, you will be considered a contractor or direct/prime contractor.
