How do I fight a false lien.

Michigan

I have had two completely false and fraudulent construction liens filed against me for work that was not performed. One of the contractors will also not return my $6000 deposit. I paid the other one $20,000 and he's showing no payment and a completely different (unsigned) contract saying I owe him almost $40K. I am elderly, 78 years old, though of sound mind, and I think they believe they can get away with defrauding me. What can I do?

It sounds like you need a good attorney to protect your interests. First DO NOT PAY anything. Second, construction liens expire on their own terms 1 year after they are filed so unless the contractor files to foreclose you do not need to do anything. Third, you need to file a complaint against both of the contractor's building license for fraud etc. Unfortunately defending against construction liens can be expensive, fortunately you can collect your attorneys fees if you win.
