I am a Florida certified roofing contractor. What to become a Florida certified construction contractor as well. How?

Florida

I am wondering what my requirements are to become a General contractor. Will I still need to take all the same test I took to become a certified roofing contractor. I took like business and osha test and a lot of others. Or do I just take the General contractor exam? Scene I taken the others all ready?

The certification exam for construction contractors is generally comprised of business and accounting, legal (489 and 713), and practical (roofing.plumbing, etc) components. Typically, if one holds a current certified license and wishes to obtain another, the same process is followed, i.e. application, fingerprints, credit report, exam. However, only the practical portion of the exam is administered. The certified general contractor license does require specific, documented experience with construction of structures with 4 or more stories which is often a difficultly for applicants. I am aware of a least 3 Certified Building Contractor license holders who applied for the CGC license, passed the exam, but whose experience was deemed insufficient for the CGC license and were ultimately issued the CBC license.
