Greetings,
I am a small contractor based in NY City. I was working on a big project for a client based in Ny City. We completed 80 % of the work. I was paid 15 % of the total contract in 09/19. I requested for another 45 % of payment in 02/20. I reached out to the client last week, 03/23/20 to get an update on the payment status. I was informed that due to Covid 19 all the operations has been closed and they are not sure when will they be able to make payment. I was informed that they are not sure if they will be able to make the payment and they might end up selling the building. What should I do to get my payment ?
Please advise.

I have a general contracting corporation. We have specialized in rebuilding the fire homes. With our profit we have bought several lots for spec homes. I don’t want to lose my company like I did in 2008. I’ve worked very hard to get back up and running. Please help me...Read More
Due to Coronavirus concerns some California Counties have suspended over-the-counter document recording services until further notice. How soon should we file a lien if we will need to process it through the mail?...Read More
I am a subcontractor in California. I sent a certified mail copy of Mechanics Lien to the GC and Owner, but have not yet filed with County Recorder. GC told me sending a Mechanics Lien Release will not affect my rights to file a Mechanics Lien at a later date (job is not complete yet), and wants to settle after job is complete in two weeks. Is this true? Will I have enough time to file a Mechanics Lien after job completion (especially with COVID-19 shut downs)?

My architect filed a Mechanic's lien 3/10/2020 (received 3/16/2020).
I think it is wise to (1) challenge the lien (for $18,912) under section 19 of the lien law for incomplete, defective, and deficient work, (2) Demand to Foreclose, and then make a special proceeding to discharge the lien. I am being charged for work that I did not consent to (I specifically asked that the work not be done) and for work that was not done at all. And, as the architect willfully exaggerated the lien I would request that he be responsible for attorneys’ fees, bond sums, and additional damages equal to the amount by which the lien is found to have been exaggerated.[10] N.Y. Lien Law §§ 39, 39-a. I am in NY County NY. How would I get this done procedurally? And, Courts are closed to to Corona virus....Read More
